Mais do que pintor
ele queria ser poeta,

assim, ao tentar
pintar o barulho

da cotovia a ascender
direita ao céu

sobre o milheiral,
Van Gogh pintou a cotovia.

He wanted to be a poet,
more than a painter,

so when van Gogh tried
to paint the sound

of the lark as it ascended
into the sky

above the cornfield,
he painted the lark.
